It seems as though Juniper Network Certification Program (JNCP) has been busy! As of today ( 6-May-2019 ) they tweeted that they have updated the JNCIE Emeritus certification.
Prior to this, similar to Cisco CCIE Emeritus, you had to enroll to be a JNCIE Emeritus. Now, based on that tweet and the post over at the Juniper Forums, you are automatically given the title of Emeritus on your 9th anniversary. The best part – it is FREE!
Finally, yes finally, I can say that I have passed the Juniper JNCIE Security Lab exam and have earned the certification JNCIE-SEC #430. This was probably the toughest lab exam I have ever taken to date.
I won’t say too much about it as to not give away any secrets. I now understand why they say this one is the hardest of the JNCIE certifications – it is a tough, yet fair, test.
Recently I took the JNCIE-SEC lab (that will be another post) and wanted to cover one of the study points that I initially struggled with, IPv4<->IPv6 NAT on a Juniper SRX device. This configuration is actually “relatively” simple once you understand it, yet most of the examples I found out there made it difficult to understand. My hope here is to put it in a format to help you understand how to configure it on a Juniper SRX device (this lab used vSRX on EVE-NG).
Well, the Cisco Live Scheduler is now open and there is one thing that I forgot to mention. If you are a CCIE, Cisco Live sessions can help you with your recertification by earning you CE credits via the Continuing Education Program. One of the awesome benefits of Cisco Live is the free Cisco Pearson Vue testing (testing center is sponsored once again by Global Knowledge) that takes place during the event. Normally in past years, the testing center has been located at the convention location, yet in recent years the testing center has been located not within the convention center.

The latest Juniper Day One: Juniper Ambassador’s Cookbook for 2019 has recently been published. What is nice about these cookbooks from Juniper is the range of information that is contained to them. There are time-saving configuration tips using apply-groups that work across all platforms, there are EVPN VLAN configurations for MX series, ZTP for EX, and much much more.
Wow – can you believe that in a few months we will be spending our days at Cisco Live learning from some of the best. We will be hanging with old friends while making new ones. We will be having some of the best lunches that have even been served at a conference! Most of all though – we’ll be partying with the Best of You all while we Take On Me.
It is time to hit that RESET button again for me as I have been away too long. I missed writing blog posts, sharing information, and it will be nice to make the time to write them again.
So where have I been – well that is simple, head-down in study mode. I am working obtaining my Juniper JNCIE-SEC certification since last year and have been studying like crazy – yet not enough to pass the lab. At this point I have taken the JNCIE-SEC lab three times, first two times I was ill-prepared and this past time I felt like I almost had it. So, back to study mode and will be focusing on that for some time yet. Will let you know more on that when I pass the darn thing – not giving up!
