I have seen similar conditions as these ports can also be used for the Virtual Chasis (VC) ports. What I did find interesting is that the normal way I have always changed VC-Ports on Junos did not work.

First, let us look at the vc-ports on this EX4400-24T:

As you can see, we have 4 VC-Ports configured on Pic 1 – Ports 0-3.

Soon, many of us will be on an airplane heading to Las Vegas for Cisco Live 2022. So I felt that it might be good to put out some final information before we head out. Below you will find some info on the Cisco Events App, Health and Safety info, as well as NetVet reception updates.

Cisco recently updated its Cisco Events application for Cisco Live 2022, this is a must-have application for an attendee. This application is your go-to for everything CIsco Live, as you can see from the images below, it has all the relevant information you need – the Session Catalog, the All Sessions section has your Schedule for the sessions you have signed up for as well.

It should be safe to say that most of us have had a tough time these past two years, no matter what our view of things – the world has changed around us. We all have been learning to adapt, understand, and cope with what has happened. I am sure that we are all looking to get back to some normalcy in our lives.

In the past one of our normalcies has been an event called Cisco Live – or Nerd Camp as some of us have come to affectionately call it. It is a place where you gather with friends who share the same passions, a place where you make new acquaintances, and ultimately a place where we learn new technologies together for the networking world.

Our last in-person event was in 2019 in San Diego, CA – since then Cisco Live has been forced to go online only due to the changes in the world Granted we still got our dose of new technology learning from a firehose with the online sessions, but they are just not the same as being in a classroom setting listening to the speaker. Online sessions are missing the human touch that we get by being in person at the event, by asking questions in the session, by conversing with the speakers after the session, and ultimately by connecting to our peers in the session. Online sessions are missing the interactions we can gain when we are together.

Recently I attended Networking Field Day 22 (NFD22) in San Jose, CA as a delegate. By attending NFD you may be exposed to companies that you may not normally come across. The first company that presented, DriveNets, was one of those companies and here is their story.

DriveNets was founded a little over 4 years ago with a mission to “disrupt network economics with growth-ready cloud-based infrastructure.” Their main target market is the Tier 1 ISP ( ATT, NTT, Level3, etc). They started with four things in mind.

1. Software-Based
2. Scale
3. Open Architecture
4. Simple Operation

When you look at a “legacy service provider” network, you will see that there are four primary layers. You have

• Last Mile (CE Router)
• Metro Aggregation (Metro)
• Provider Edge (PE Router)
• Core (P Router)

Happy Days have returned! I have been invited to attend Network Field Day #22 (#NFD22) in San Jose, CA on February 12-14, 2020. If you are unfamiliar with Network Field Day, it is an event that is organized by Gestalt IT Media, LLC and brings together vendors along with independent bloggers (delegates). The list of delegates for this event is, as always, impressive. I am really honored to be part of this event and to be included among this group of individuals. This year they offered the traditional JNCIE Lab testing prior to the event as well as a 1.5-day Contrail training session. Since I was not taking a lab this year, I figured I would take the Contrail training class and see what it is all about. It was a nice introduction of Contrail v19 ( they changed the versioning to the year ). I may try to do another post on that later.

I also attended the Hack-A-Thon again this year, and that was a great experience. What I like about Juniper’s Hack-a-Thons is that they focus more on the hacking/security then they do on Juniper products per se. They approach it from a way to learn about security, how to look for things, and what you can do to protect your network. I will try to write more on the Hack-a-Thon in another post.

The IOS and Andriod NXTWORK 2019 app have been published and are available for download. You can also search for the app by entering NXTWORK 2019 Americas. When you first launch it you will need to log in with your e-mail and then you can either use the default password of NXTWORK, or just reset your password ( that is what I did ).

I have decided to do a little series on “What I run at home” with regards to networking, labs, and other assorted items that may be of interest. As a techie, it is always interesting to find what other techies run at home.

Well, I figured it was my time to share as I have been running the same network at home for a few years and have been pleased with the performance and management.

It is just about time for Cisco Live 2019!  Here are some quick things you should know before you go.

• Bring a larger suitcase than you think you will need.  
  The reason for this is because you will probably get a new backpack, shirts, and other stuff from WoS that you will want to bring home.
