Juniper JNCIE-ENT Refresh

A few months ago Juniper announced that the JNCIE-ENT lab exam would be getting a much-needed refresh. On November 1st will be saying goodbye to JPR-943 and hello to JPR-944. This new lab exam is also a 6-hour hands-on lab instead of the previous 8-hour hands-on.

I do plan to update my JNCIE-Workbook based on this new lab, yet have no definitive timeline to accomplish that task. While my workbook may not cover everything in the syllabus (EVPN, Space, Scripts) it seems as though much of it is still relevant. JNCP Emeritus – Automatic Enrollment

It seems as though Juniper Network Certification Program (JNCP) has been busy! As of today ( 6-May-2019 ) they tweeted that they have updated the JNCIE Emeritus certification.

Prior to this, similar to Cisco CCIE Emeritus, you had to enroll to be a JNCIE Emeritus. Now, based on that tweet and the post over at the Juniper Forums, you are automatically given the title of Emeritus on your 9th anniversary. The best part – it is FREE!

JNCIE-SEC Lab Experience (JPR-932)

Finally, yes finally, I can say that I have passed the Juniper JNCIE Security Lab exam and have earned the certification JNCIE-SEC #430. This was probably the toughest lab exam I have ever taken to date.

I won’t say too much about it as to not give away any secrets. I now understand why they say this one is the hardest of the JNCIE certifications – it is a tough, yet fair, test.

Cisco Live and Cisco Continuing Education Program

JNCIE-SEC Changes

In 2018-October Juniper announced that the new JNCIE-SEC JPR-933 beta exam will be available in December and January. Ok, this might not be super recent news, it was announced last October – I am just a bit behind on posting stuff due to studying for my JNCIE-SEC.

CCIE Recertification Continuing Education Review

Way back in 2008 I passed the CCIE R&S lab to obtain my CCIE #22061. Over the past years, I have taken recertification written exams including the CCIE Voice, CCIE Service Provider, CCIE R&S, as well as the CCDE written tests to maintain active CCIE status. Last June, Cisco announced a change to the recertification procedure and made available the ability to use a Continuing Education Program as well to the standard written tests. This time around I chose to take advantage of that program to recertify and wanted to share my results and experiences with the process.
To access the Continuing Education Program dashboard for your certification, you just need to navigate to https://ce.cisco.com/#/dashboard. Once there you will be able to see your current certification status (CCIE and any other certifications associated with your account). To renew your CCIE certification, you are required to earn 100 credits and submit the appropriate proof of attendance. For more FAQ information, see the Cisco FAQ at https://fryguy.me/2sc8hXG.

Juniper Certifications now good for 3 years!

It is finally official, Juniper has extended their certification expiration from two years to three years. Originally Juniper certifications where active for 2 years, and then you had 1 year after that to renew. If you did not re-certify prior to the 2–year anniversary, you went into an inactive status for a year with your certification. Then if you did not renew within that two years, your certification became expired and you would have to take the test(s) again to regain that certification. What Juniper has now done is give you three years of active status, and you need to re-certify prior to the 3^rd year anniversary – there is no more inactive status. While this does alleviate much pressure on candidates (it can be hard to re-certify every certification every two years), it also means that the motivation factor of “inactive” status is gone. I just logged into my CertManager portal page to check on my certifications as I know I had one that was in inactive status. It is now active, but now shows _Expiring._ At least that tells you that you need to re certify soon! Luckily they do also list the date of the Expiration on the page, so you know your drop-dead deadline. Cisco Exam Policy Changes and Cost Increases

There has been some talk on the twitter-verse and at Cisco Live around some of the changes that Cisco is making to the CCIE/DE written and lab policies. Last month they posted those changes to their Certification Exam Policies website to let everyone know and read. The ones that are key to CCIE/DE candidates (and some will be effective August 2, 2014) are:
Written:

Candidates who fail the CCIE/DE written must want 15 calendar days, beginning the day after the fail, before retaking the exam
Once passed, you cannot retake the same written exam within 180 days
Candidates may attempt the CCIE/DE written exam up to four (4) times per rolling calendar year.

Lab (here is the big one):

Candidate must wait 30 days between CCIE lab attempts (30 days starts the day after the failed attempt)
For your 1^st attempt there is no wait time.
For your 2^nd attempt, there is a 30 day wait time
For your 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th attempt, there is a 90 wait time between each
For your 6^th , 7^th and onward, the there is a 180 day wait time between each.
